Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper

drpepper2.jpgManufacturer's Brand Overview: “Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper is the first member of Dr Pepper's ‘Fountain Classics’ line of beverages. Recognizing that line extensions generally don't create lasting sales, this new line will feature limited run flavor extensions to the Dr Pepper brand.” The diet incarnation of this flavor came out first and was reviewed here on Phoood by the diet beverage consumer advocate. I don’t do diet beverages. I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this flavor on the shelves, and I was not disappointed by the flavor. I think they went a little crazy with the red coloring, so I just drink it straight from the can. I mean, is Pepsi or Coke with Lime flavor GREEN?! Color and the fact that this flavor may not be around long are the only things keeping me from declaring total allegiance to this soda.

Lay's Stax Potato Ships

stax2.jpgThese were on sale at Wal-Mart, so my wife bought them. I have tried them, different varieties, several times. Each and every time, without fail, I always have to ask myself: Why? Why try to get the Pringles taste and experience from something other than Pringles? I do not care for the consistency – they always seem to be stale. Perhaps this speaks of crispness rather than consistency, but they just seem to lack any spark. The different flavors always strike me as just missing the mark. I really like potato chips, in almost any form, but these just do not hit the spot the way a chip should. The bottom line with these is “If you want Pringles, get Pringles.”

Reese's 1 Gram Sugar Carb Peanut Butter Cups

reesescarb.jpgI’m not on the low-carbohydrate kick, so I don’t usually eat low-carb food. After eating this Reese’s 1 Gram Sugar Carb Peanut Butter Carb, I will be even less likely to buy low carb products, especially anything sweet. Everything about it is wrong – the taste, the consistency, the chocolate, the peanut butter, etc, etc. If this wasn’t bad enough, they are slightly smaller than the regular Peanut Butter Cups. Eating the cups was truly a disappointing experience. Unless you are on the Ultimate Atkins Diet and absolutely cannot eat any carbs, I recommend staying away from this product.

Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby Ice Cream

chubbyhubby.jpgFudge-covered Peanut Butter-Filled Pretzels in Vanilla Malt Ice Cream Rippled with Fudge & Peanut Butter. Ever hear of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Then here is your chance to meet one head on. I know that ice cream noshing is not gender specific, but this one, name aside, has a ton of what guys want. Every spoonful seems to have its own flavor. Salt from the pretzels, ice cream, chocolate and peanut butter to emulate a Reese’s cup add up to a great taste. I used to eat ice cream by the scoop, now it is by the pint. This is not for weight watchers, calorie counters, or the lactose intolerant. If you do not believe you are what you eat, then this can change your mind as well as your waist!

Taco Bell Grande Soft Taco

grandesofttaco.jpgI’ve been eating lots of average phoood lately, but I finally found something great – the Taco Bell Grande Soft Taco. I don’t know how I could have missed this for so long! The Grande Soft Taco is made by wrapping a soft taco (with double the beef) in a second flour tortilla that has been covered with nacho cheese sauce. The two soft flour tortillas really give the taco some substance, and the nacho cheese sauce adds a great flavor and texture to the taco. Typically, I don’t get to excited about nacho cheese sauce. But in the Grande Soft Taco, it is delicious. This is easily one of the best items on the Taco Bell menu.

Oreo Double Stuf Peanut Butter Creme

oreopeanutbutter.jpgNew on my supermarket shelf are new Oreo Double Stuf Peanut Butter Creme cookies. There are no big surprises here, just your typical chocolate Oreo wafers filled with peanut butter creme. Like most combinations of chocolate and peanut butter, these cookies are pretty good. I think they taste like the combination of an original Oreo and a Nutter Butter (yum). The peanut butter creme is only OK, it could have a better flavor and texture. I didn't dunk them in milk like I should have, but I'm sure they would be good this way. Overall, it’s a pretty good cookie.

Munch Nut Bar

munchbar.jpgI found this Munch Nut Bar in a local Kwik-E-Mart. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this candy bar before, although this Web site says it was introduced in 1970. How did I miss it for 35 years? Further research on the Web indicates that it is also (or is it formerly?) called Snickers Munch Bar, and that it has limited distribution. Anyway, the Munch bar was only OK, but not nearly as good as a Payday bar. It is essentially a bar of peanut brittle, albeit with a much lighter consistency and softer crunch than typical peanut brittle. It’s really not special in any way, and I would pass it up for most other candy bars on the rack.

Cheese Nips Chips – Bold Cheddar

nipschips.jpgThese new Cheese Nips Chips are very similar to Ritz Chips, but there really is no comparison. Ritz Chips, which were previously awarded an “Outstanding!” rating, have everything going right for them, while Cheese Nips Chips have almost nothing going their way. Their flavor is pretty bad, much worse then I expected from a “Nip” product. The texture and crunch were also less than desirable. They are worth eating only under rare circumstances, like maybe when there is nothing else in the cupboard. Otherwise, stick to other snacks or the far superior Ritz Chips.
