Diet Mountain Dew UltraViolet

mdultraviolet.jpgSome soft drinks have diet versions that taste pretty good, others are just okay, and some are nearly undrinkable. Mountain Dew is one those that does not translate well into a diet version. The problem with Diet Mountain Dew is that it has a nasty, artificial tasting sweetness to it. Diet Mountain Dew UltraViolet is no exception. Although UltraViolet has a very pleasant mixed berry flavor, the berry flavor is not enough to overcome the artificial sweetness. There are better diet soft drinks out there, so I recommend staying away from this one. Diet Mountain Dew UltraViolet is a limited edition drink and will only be available for a short time. So, if you think I may be wrong and want to try one for yourself, you better hurry and get one while you can.

Monster Import

monsterimport.jpgFirst of all let me say that I am skeptical about many things European. French cars have shoddy wiring, Ukrainian power plants have a tendency to blow up, and Italian sodas are much too fizzy. So I was hesitant to try Monster Energy's new product, Import. Can you blame me? The label even promises Euro-Flavor. Twisting off the nifty "European" style re-sealable cap, I take a draught. Oh. My. Goodness. Monster has done it again, mellowing out their traditional biting flavor into a silky sweet concoction. Less calories too! I find that the contents of an entire can would easily disappear into my ever-hungry gullet. Any traces of an aftertaste are obliterated in this mix, making Monster Import my new favorite energy drink. Kudos, Monster, kudos. (The cool coat of arms on the front gets bonus points, as well.)

Wendy’s Bold Buffalo Boneless Wings

bonelesswings.jpgIf Clara Peller ordered these, I'm sure she would ask, “Where’s the chicken?” For $3.99, I expected to get more chicken than I got with my order of Wendy’s Bold Buffalo Boneless Wings. It was a pretty small portion that looked even smaller because it didn’t come close to filling up the serving container. A few of the pieces were embarrassingly small and looked like afterthoughts from the bottom of the bag. On the positive side, the Buffalo sauce was really good, with a level of heat that you don’t usually find in fast food. I loved it, but it is probably too hot for many people. The chicken itself (all white meat) was okay but nothing special. For those who like really spicy food, the Bold Buffalo Boneless Wings may be worth trying if you can get past the price and portion size. Boneless Buffalo Wings are also available in Honey BBQ and Sweet & Spicy Asian flavors.

DiGiorno Italian-Style Meatball & Four Cheese Flatbread Melt

flatbreadmelts.jpgThis probably has the longest name of any product ever reviewed on Phoood, so I’ll just abbreviate it as DISMFCFM. Longtime readers know that I love everything DiGiorno. Until now, that is. The DISMFCFM is not worthy to carry the name DiGiorno. The flatbread is not very appealing and when cooked, doesn’t look anything like the delicious, golden-brown picture on the box. But, I don’t expect much in this regard as the DISMFCFM is intended to be cooked in a microwave (in fact, the cooking instructions say not to cook it in a conventional oven). It’s the filling that really kills the DISMFCFM. There just isn’t any flavor. Each bite was a mouthful of bland. I thought that I had lost my sense of taste when I was eating it, because there wasn’t anything there. Fortunately, my sense of taste is intact and it's the DISMFCFM that is the problem. Stay far away.
