Carl's Jr. Charbroiled Steak Sandwich

cjsteak.jpgMuch like reality television, it seems this fast-food steak phenomenon isn't going away any time soon. You've got Angus, you've got Sirloin, and I'm sure somewhere in someone's R&D department, will be the Porterhouse Burger. But in the meantime we have Carl's latest incarnation, the Charbroiled Steak *Sandwich*. They wisely made sure to include that last word to let us know this is not in the burger vein, as it features a long, hoagie style roll. This would indicate we're probably going to be looking at an elongated steak patty as our main attraction, and I must say, it came off tasty enough...for having tomatoes and mayonnaise underneath it! That was a first for me, in all the steak'wiches I've had. Usually it's A-1 with some onions or something. Though they did wisely include some onion rings (natch) which gave it a good balance. And the steak had that perfect toughness that you really have to gnash through. But, alas, (even sans the mayo and tomato additions), the biggest thing that will keep me from requesting another one of these at the speakerbox: the price. $4.69 for something as filling as a Famous Star?? Steak, sure, but it better be the size of a Six Dollar monster for that amount of dead presidents. And flavor-wise for that price...well, let's just say the $5.69 for a Guacamole Six Dollar Burger is justified.

Phoood rating: So-so

I sent in a review on this one too, but I guess you beat me to the punch. I agree totally on the price. This sandwich is a lot smaller than it appears to be in the ads. The "steak" on mine, however, was way too tender, almost like a hamburger patty. I won't be ordering it again either. And yes, I still haven't forgiven them for taking away the Teriyaki Burger. My first time at Carl's Jr. I ordered the traditional $6.00 burger combo tonight and was so surprised and disappointed for my $8.76. It was just a regular burger, maybe a little bigger than the norm, it was cold, the bun was smashed down very thin, one ring of a purple onion, a wilted piece of lettuce and the worst was that it had sweet pickles on it YUCK!!! Although the tomatoes were thick and tasted fresh. The fries were good but also cold. The diet soda had more ice than soda. By time I got home, I was to far and angry to return the food so I bit the bullet. I will NEVER eat at Carl's Jr. again. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!

@ Ed: Yeah, I don't know how they could've taken away the teriyaki burger. The commercial for it was awesome though.

I love the steak sandwhich from Carls... The steak is a nice piece of meat no fat or grizzle throughout meat. Most steaksandwhiches you have alot of fat around outside of meat.. carls is solid meat and the onion rings make it nice and crispy perfect balance. I have consumed the sandwhich several times and do enjoyed it every time. I do admits its a bit over priced yet the quality of the sandwhich makes up for it in my opinion.

I have to say that I tried this steak sandwhich, and I was still hungry. Its one of the smallest steak sandiwhiches I have ever seen looks like a sandwhich made from hotdog buns. I would prefer a real steak sandwhich from one of those charbroiled burger places, those are big.

i live in mexico, and down here we have carl's jr, and the same "special" burgers that you can find in the US, yesterday i went to eat and i was tempted to order this "sandwich" but i remember about this review and the price (around 70 pesos, that is 5 dollars), instead i order a carls catch fish sandwich, that tasted really bad, specially the tartar sauce. Definitly i should stick to only order the guacamole & bacon burger.
