I never thought that I would eat a Pop Tart that I didn’t really care for, but I’ve done it. After all, how can a Pop Tart, with its sugar and fat, not taste good? First, I ate an Ice Cream Sandwich Pop Tart straight out of its iconic foil package and was utterly unimpressed. The flavor of the dark chocolate crust was no good, the vanilla filling tasted like it was there only as an afterthought, and the thing did not taste one bit like an ice cream sandwich. I heated up the next one in the toaster and it this made it taste a bit better – but is still tasted nothing like an ice cream sandwich. Knowing that some food tastes better when frozen (like most cookies and candy bars), I even put one in the freezer and ate it after it was frozen. Nope, it didn’t work. The remaining five Pop Tarts have been sitting in my cupboard for about a month, which is telling. Tasty food doesn’t stay in my cupboard very long.

I am not much of a morning person but I do like breakfast food. Recently there have been some attempts by national fast food chains to supply more breakfast offerings. One of these new options is McDonald’s Real Fruit Smoothies. There are two flavors, Strawberry Banana and Wild Berry. At first I was skeptical. I assumed that the “real fruit” part of the smoothie would come with a disclaimer of “5% real fruit”. After some investigation it turns out that the smoothie is actually made with real ingredients for the most part, including real fruit and low fat yogurt. Real ingredients means real taste and both varieties taste fresh and bursting with real fruit flavor. I know a lot of people like coffee in the morning but for me picking up one of these Rea Fruit Smoothies is a good way to start your day.
