KFC Grilled Chicken

kfcgrilled.jpgKentucky Fried Chicken. Let me repeat that: Kentucky FRIED Chicken. Needless to say, I was a little perturbed when I heard KFC (nee Kentucky Fried Chicken, the fried chicken king) was going to start offering grilled chicken. It seemed like the move was simply a marketing ploy to broaden their potential customer base. Fried foods have never been too friendly on waist lines, and adding a grilled entree appeals to diet-conscious consumers. But is this addition of grilled chicken something more than just a way to reach new customers? Is it something that will have people coming back again and again, not because it is a healthier alternative but because it flat-out tastes good? I headed to my local Colonel's headquarters looking for an answer. I ordered a two-piece meal, one of the pieces being their original recipe classic and the other being the new grilled chicken. I ate the delicious original recipe first, all the while thinking: why would anyone come to KFC and get anything else? And then I bit into a piece of the new grilled chicken. I was immediately taken aback. It was so juicy and full of flavor that I needed another bite to confirm what I had just tasted. The second and third and so on until I was finished had confirmed my first taste. The grilled chicken really was that good. That juicy, full flavor piece left me wanting more. The new grilled chicken at KFC is not just a ho-hum offering of a backyard classic--they are Kentucky Fried Chicken, after all, and fried chicken is what put them on the map--but their grilled chicken will make me come back.

Phoood rating: Outstanding!

I have to agree about the grilled chicken, it's out of this world. I have been waiting for a piece of Chicken I can pick up on the way home from work that fits into my lifestyle. Not only can I get grilled vs fried but KFC also has healthier sides to go with it. Corn on the cob and green beans are great sides and almost saves enough calories so you don't feel bad about eating that yummy biscuit.

What I liked the most about the new grilled chicken was the carbohydrate count--a yummy, tasty "0", which is a freebie for a diabetic like me that counts carbohydrate grams! Finally, something on the KFC menu that I can eat.

A two-piece meal with cole slaw and a biscuit (can't go without the biscuit) fits into my diabetic meal plan, and I can substitute/add other sides as long as they're not too starchy. I didn't try the green beans, but they sound like a good alternative to the high-carb corn and mashed potatoes.

El Pollo Loco, don't worry. It's not even a
legitimate threat...
At KFC (KGC whatever), the the searing looked
almost fake. Freaked me out. The end.

This chicken is great. For those that want chicken but not fried, this is for you. It is flavorful and delicious. I love fried chicken, but have grown tired of it and want an alternative. Boston Market was the only place I could find with delicious non-fried chicken. Not anymore. Try this chicken.
And Denise posted she doesn't go to her neighborhood KFC anymore because they are dirty, nasty, with rude employees. I have had the same problem in my city, but I just drive to another, BETTER location to get my KFC. I was so upset by the quality of food and service one time I emailed the KFC website. They listened and sent me an apology letter with free meal coupons.

After looking at these reviews, it may be the KFC I went to, but it was horrible.

Just had it today and mine was dried out like beef jerkey. No thanks!

I tried the grilled chicken and it was OK, but not great. I like the skin to be crispy with non-fried chicken, but the skin on this was beyond crispy to the point of being dried out (probably from sitting on the heat rack too long). The leg and thigh that I received were smaller than the usual portions I've come to expect from KFC. I might have to try it at another location before I render a final verdict.

This chicken sucks. I tried it at 3 different spots and it just doesn't taste right. I love the chicken pot pies though. Sooooooo good.

I LOVE me some yard birds.....fried being a fave. That is until I tried Broasted chicken, anyone else ever had this wonderful experience? Its a process that sears the meat, and fries it without being greasy. Yum:)

KFC is disgusting. Not only is their chicken greasy and fattening, KFC tortures millions of chickens a day! Cut back from KFC and save the innocent animals please.

I love kfc's origional recipe but the so-called grilled is a joke. A very bland joke at that. No flavor, dry texture and the color of the poor chicken was pale not at all like grilled or roast chicken should be. Just soooo bland. No flavor. If you like that nasty stuff, my own recipe would make you see the light. My dog could cook better grilled chicken than kfc. Makes me wonder bout your other posts. Based on this mabey I'll steer clear of your picks.

I think the grilled chicken is nothing short of fantastic! I'm not too wild about the skin on the thighs...but that's easily pulled off and tossed. I live "low-carb" so this is a wonderful fast food choice for me.
