Carl's Jr. Crisp Burritos

cjburritos.jpgWe stopped at Carl’s Jr. to pick up some eats for the baby, but I wasn’t feeling incredibly hungry. As a result, instead of ordering my regular double western bacon, I figured I’d try out the Crisp Burrito meal, courtesy of Green Burrito’s alliance with Carl’s. One thing I should have obviously noticed is that these things could not be as remotely large as they are displayed, and they’re not. About two inches long and an inch in diameter, these little morsels should not be the main event in a meal, though they’d be an incredible side order. These south-of-the-border eggrolls are very simple and delicious, filled with a thinly ground, seasoned beef, cheese, and jalapeno mixture. Worry not, fellow jalapeno haters, they’re completely unnoticeable, and they give the burrito a little zest. I thought the guacamole came standard with them, so I didn’t ask directly for it and as a result, received none. I checked online, and apparently guacamole is only available for additional charge. I have no doubt though, that had I been granted a wee tublet of avocado dip, these mini-burritos would have been even more enjoyable than they already are.

Please don't do that to this blog! I know it's not you Jim but, to me, the site is slowly its' credibility here.

A max rating for Kentucky Grilled Chicken and now this?!

Sorry to say but this is a new low.

Sounds great to me. I'll have to try these.

Wait - the Carl's Jr. website says the 5 piece order contains 1190 calories and 92 grams of fat. Are they seriously only two inches long?

Forgive me, Mr. Ed, if my tastes are not identical to yours. I really enjoyed these burritos. And yes, Mr. Justin, they are very small.

I tried these at my local Carl's and they were horrid. I couldn't even finish my order.

Ok, I'm gonna do it. I'm standing up and letting the whole world know that I love these little scutters and I don't care who knows it! There, I feel better now. My preferred way to order them is one large and one small order. That way there's an even 50-50 split for both my wife and I. We could order two small orders, but that's not quite enough and two larges are just too many. Does anyone remember when Carls used to offer large fried burritos in the 80's? Those were yum!

At first I was not going to say anything about these "Crisp Burritos," but after reading the review about them I thought something needed to be said. For one, if no one has noticed, Carls Jr. lists Phoood.com on their drink labeling which should be to nobody's surprise the articles about their food here is bias. Secondly, the "thinly ground, seasoned beef, cheese, and jalapeno mixture" is actually the EXACT same stuff they use in their chili fries. These burritos are so terrible I ended up throwing them out and declared them the worst thing Carls Jr. has ever created.

Ok, I've tried and love these little things. Unlike Justin, I don't expect something healthy that is deep fried and sold at a Carl's Jr. I mean come on it's fast food first off and then it's deep fried. I love them though the only problem is I never taste the cheese. Then again maybe it's because I burn my tounge almost every time. Thanks Carl for taking a few more years off my life in a delicious way.

Back in the 1980's, Carls Jr. sold an item from their regular restaurants called the "Crispirito", which looked very similar to the small things you reviewed, except it was the size of an average burrito. I ate them all the time, the filling was delicious, but it didn't come with any sauce IIRC.
