Land O’ Lakes Spreadable Butter

landolakes.jpgA while back, I decided to switch from margarine to real butter for using on bread, toast, waffles, etc. I figured that I didn’t really eat that much of it (at least not as much as Homer Simpson) and it probably wouldn’t kill me if I enjoyed real, creamy, butter. I quickly realized that margarine has one advantage over butter – spreadability. Straight out of the refrigerator, the butter was too hard to spread, resulting in mangled waffles, ripped pancakes, and much frustration. One day, I noticed an item in the supermarket that I previously hadn’t paid much attention to: spreadable butter. My dilemma had been solved! Land O’ Lakes adds a little bit of canola oil to their butter, which makes it easy to spread right out of the refrigerator. If the canola oil adds any flavor to the butter, I really can’t taste it. There are other brands of spreadable butter out there, but be careful. I tried a competing brand that was much too soft and melted quickly when out of the refrigerator.

Phoood rating: Outstanding!

Thanks for the good review.
I have been wanting to try this, but wasn't sure if it was worth the money.
I don't use much either and I love the taste of butter so much better than margarine.
I'm going to get it next time I get to the store.

Non-spreadable butter has always tormented me. Thanks for the heads up on this product.

I've tried a couple different varieties of spreadable butter, but it was always just as hard to spread as the regular stuff straight out of the fridge. I'll have to try that next time.

Real butter does not go bad fast at all and can be left out of the fridge full time....spreadable problem solved.....that is as long as you keep your thermastat above 65F.

Yeah, this spread is pretty good. I only use spread about once a week, so I usually use Country Crock with Omega's, but I like this much better.

This post reminds me of an informercial. I can just see the black and white montage of ripped waffles and ruined pancakes.

Your Spreadable Buter (red top) is a farce! It tears bread and cools waffles. I hate. Why has the "green top" Light Canola butter disappeared from store shelves? I TRIED the red top kind and didn't like being lied to. I want the Green topped Light Canola Spreadable Butter back.

This is great stuff....although it doesn't spread straight out of the fridge, I find leaving it out for 5 minutes or so makes it 100% spreadable.

This item is not very spreadable on non toasted bread which is what I mostly use to spread my butter on. Toasted items are great, but to spread on untoasted, unroasted, unbaked items, this product falls short of spreadability!
