Sun Chips Harvest Cheddar

sunchips.jpgSun Chips may be the most underrated product on the chip/pretzel/cracker aisle. Not only are they unlike any other chip, they are also delicious. If you care about nutrition, you’ll be glad to know they have 30 percent less fat then regular potato chips. I have loved the original variety Sun Chips since they were first introduced, but only recently tried the Harvest Cheddar flavor. They are great, as I expected. They have a mild cheddar flavor that is very tasty, and the same unique texture and crunch of original Sun Chips. Try them and you’ll agree that Sun Chips Harvest Cheddar are one of the best tasting chips you can find.

Phoood rating: Outstanding!

I like all of the varieties of Sun Chips, but find that they are often hard to find. I wish all restaurants/snack aisles would carry them!

I had been eating "Sun Chips" since it arrived in 2000! I hope that is the right year, but I have been eating these for more than four years! Even my kids love them -they are fincky eaters!

The rating should have been three of the faces not one, and I am a health-nut. Try the other flavors; French Onion and the plain one. Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure sun chips have been around for 5 years. I have memories of eating them at least 7 years ago. Hopefully I'm not going senile.

It's possible that I'm also becoming delusional, but I could have sworn they've been around for a while longer than that.

i agree they are delicious

We've had these chips around for at least 10 years! They're yummy! They're in all of the grocery stores, at least the original flavor is!

According to the customer relations department of Frito-Lay®, Sun Chips® Original and French Onion flavor were introduced & went national in 1990. Their Harvest Cheddar flavor a couple yerars later (1992).

I hope this clears up any questions about people's (Kirsten and jars) state of reality/confusion. To put it in 'Phoood' lingo "Their cheese has not slipped off of their crackers."

So, are they made out of potatoes, or what?

Posted by: maryjo at October 13, 2005 8:55 AM

maryjo, the Original flavor's listed ingredients are Corn, vegetable oil (corn and/or canola, whole wheat, rice flour, oat flour, sugar and salt. I guess no potatoes allow for the "30% less fat" stat.

These are so yummy!

I wish they would make these in a "baked" version, they are still pretty high in fat overall. (Especially since it is so hard to eat just one serving!)

A friend of mine ( christina ) introduced me to these chips, and I am hooked, I have yet to try the harvest chedder ones, but right now I am eating French onion flavor as we speak. lol, They are soooooo hard to find, the only place I have been able to find them at is Wal-Mart of all places, other than its getting more and more difficult. Fortunitaly (sp) for me, I found they have all 3 flavors at a Dollar store next door to where I live. THese chips are awesomely delicous.

Sun Chips are truely great, on their own I really prefer Original. The Harvest Cheddar are very good with a Subway sandwich (I tend to get Honey Oat bread with Turkey). I'm health conscious as well, so that's a decent combo for both taste and health.

actually, sunchips are not good for you. People percieve them as healthy, and end up eating so much of them that they intake a greater amount than if they had just eaten a regular amount of potatoe chips. Thats part of why 3 in 5 americans are overweight.

Actually - they are pretty good for you. I'm trying to eat more whole grains - and SC have a full serving in just 1 oz. And they're made with sunflower oil now, which is a healthy oil/helps lowers cholesterol. My fave is the Garden Salsa flavor - haven't noticed it before so it might be new.

i love sun chips holy crap there good but my sister hates them hahah she's gay hah not really

What in the world is "Harvest Cheddar"? Do the people at Frito Lay think that cheese grows in fields and you have to go harvest it? "Harvest Cheddar" doesn't make any sense at all. I would think that someone would have caught that during the naming process.
