Taco Bell A.M. Crunchwrap – Bacon

amcrunchwrap.jpgTaco Bell recently introduced a new breakfast menu to their U.S. restaurants. Eager to see how the menu stacks up against the fast food competition, I visited my neighborhood Taco Bell last Saturday morning and bought a few of the new items. The Hash Brown (very similar to what McDonald’s has been serving forever) was delicious – golden and crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. I could have eaten a stack of them. The Waffle Taco with sausage was a disappointment, mainly because the “waffle” taco shell was dense, chewy, and didn’t taste much like an actual waffle. The third item I bought was an A.M. Crunchwrap with bacon. It’s something that I can see myself ordering again and again. The Crunchwrap is made with scrambled eggs, a hash brown patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, and creamy jalapeńo sauce, all wrapped in a flour tortilla, then grilled. The final product is a yummy tortilla pouch of goodness. Sure, I would have liked to have more bacon in it, but that’s really my only quibble. The rest of the ingredients tasted good, the hash brown patty added a nice crunchiness, and the jalapeńo sauce spiced the whole thing up a just a little bit. I also really liked that I could eat it with one hand without it falling apart or dripping stuff down my arm. There are several other items on Taco Bell’s breakfast menu, and I’m looking forward to eating some of them … along with an A.M. Crunchwrap.

Any restaurant as large as Taco Bell should start breakfast at 4 or 5 a.m. I just will not even try these morning products. If any brand is convinced they have a winner, start an early a.m. Seven tells me to think twice. I only thought once. I PASS.

we recently tried the new taco bell a.m. crunchwrap-bacon, and a side of hash browns while out and about with mrs. ghostmarine. the wrap was smaller than what i had pictured in my head-par for the course with me (i always seem to think big on food portions). there was some bacon, but not enough for me. i eat big. the flour tortilla wrap was okay, but had a slight metallic taste to it. much to my surprise, however, the eggs were tasty and fresh. the slab of hash brown was greasy. i also tried the hash brown by itself, and it was greasier than the one in the crunchwrap. so for me there were trade offs. somethings about the breakfast items were good, others not so much. mrs. ghostmarine also had the same items, and proclaimed them to be "tasty, and good. i would order them again". i was not really overwhelmed, or underwhelmed by either item. i would have to be pretty hungry to order this again. so, a split decision from us. and as always:
semper fi, carry on!!
