Doritos Taco

doritostaco.jpgIf you look around on the web, you’ll find that Doritos Taco flavored chips have a legendary status. Apparently, they were the second flavor of Doritos released but were discontinued many years ago. Recently, Doritos brought back the Taco chips, at least for a limited time. The bag has the all-to-familiar-nowadays “Limited Edition” label on it, so there’s no knowing how long they will be around. I picked up a bag recently to experience the nostalgia. Love the retro bag design! The chips have a pleasant, familiar taco flavor that is much more subdued compared to many of the other flavors of Doritos that are out there. That’s not to say that the chips are lacking in flavor, just that the flavor isn’t as bold as most other flavors of Doritos. Lots of the other flavors try much too hard to be interesting and exciting. Doritos Taco, on the other hand, tastes like it doesn’t have anything to prove and is comfortable being just “taco.” This is just fine with me. I like the flavor of the chips and hope that Doritos makes them a permanent item.

Comments:

We bought these recently and when we tried them my wife said "These remind me of when I was a teenager". I don't think anything else needed to be said.

I also noticed on the back of the bag they showed a picture of a new modern bag for Taco flavor so I assume that the "Limited Edition" is just the retro bag design and they will eventually switch over to the newer bag design to match the rest of the flavors.

In my opinion Doritos has been consistantly coming out with very good limited edition flavors. I wish some of them would stick around but I also understand that they can only have so many permanent flavors.

As an aside, did anyone get to try the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burn flavors that were out in October. I thought they were outstanding.

DO NOT BE FOOLED....THE RETRO BAG IS GOOD...THE CHIPS ARE AWFUL...THEY ARE A MERE "SHADOW" OF TACO DORITOS FROM THE 1970'S. THIS IS NOT THE ORGINAL TACO FLAVOR OF THE 1970'S. THIS IS A CHEAP IMITATION WITH STRANGE AFTERTASTE, NO SMELL TO THEM AT ALL EQUALS NO SPICES IN THEM---JUST FAKE SOUR CREAM, CHEESE, PRESERVATIVES---ALL THINGS THAT WERE NOT IN THE 1970'S CHIPS--THE 1970'S CHIPS WERE HEAVILY SEASONED WITH REAL SPICES, PEPPER, CUMIN, GARLIC POWDER, TACO FLAVOR, ETC. THEY DID NOT CONTAIN ANY SOUR CREAM, SUGAR, MILK, AND CHEESE INGREDIENTS--I TRIED THESE NEW DECEMBER 2010 TACO CHIPS AND LIKED THE RETRO BAG BUT HATED THE AWFUL TASTE OF THE CHIPS AND I DUMPED THE ENTIRE BAG ON THE GROUND FOR THE BIRDS!! IT WAS ACTUALLY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO EAT MORE THAN 5 OF THESE CHIPS WHEN I COULD EASILY DEVOUR 2 BAGS OF THE 1970S CHIPS AS I REMEMBER DOING AS A TEEN!! FRITO LAY IS SIMPLY LYING WHEN THEY SAY THIS IS THE ORIGINAL FORMULA--I HAVE AN EMPTY BAG FROM THE 1970'S TACO AND THE INGREDIENT LIST IS VERY SMALL AND VERY VERY DIFFERENT FROM THESE DECEMBER 2010 TACO CHIPS!!!

Sam's comments speak for me as well.
No need to say more than - phony taco doritos.

What will Frito-Lay do next--bring Avery Schreiber back from the dead to resurrect Sour Cream & Onion Doritos chips? I am certain the 2010s formula will bear no resemblance to the original, just as it was the case with Original Taco Flavor.

The above post is from an idiot with no pallet. Exact same chip. Did he think Frito Lay destroyed the reciepie? I love these chips.
