Doritos Tacos at Midnight

doritostacos.jpgRecently, I’ve spotted a few new flavors of Doritos here in Sacramento. I’ll get around to trying them all eventually, but the first one I bought was Tacos at Midnight. It's one flavor in the new “Late Night” series, which also includes Last Call Jalapeño Popper. It appears that by “tacos at midnight,” Doritos was thinking tacos from a taco truck or taqueria (or maybe from Tacos Tacos Tacos Tacos) rather than Taco Bell, Del Taco, Taco John’s, or Taco Bueno. The flavor is heavy on the onions and cilantro and much spicier than the regular Taco flavor of Doritos. You also get some tomato and sour cream flavor. Overall, I like the flavor and would definitely buy Tacos at Midnight over many of the other lesser Doritos flavors. Now, if they can only come up with a Carne Asada Burritos at Midnight flavor…

Del Taco, not Dell Taco

Where do we find regular taco flavor doritos? I live in the middle of Texas and the only doritos we have are these new late night ones, cooler ranch, nacho cheesier, plain, and salsa verde!

Personally, I think they taste like just taco seasoning, none of that herby or veggie stuff. I told the Frito Lay salesman this and he said "What did you expect, the lettuce and onions to fall out of the bag when you opened it?"

Instead of making these whimpy new flavors, they need to bring back Smokin' Cheddar BBQ. :( They broke my heart by discontinuing that flavor.

Ditto the comment about regular taco flavor.
Frito Lay enjoys taunting people with promotions.
Last fall the original Taco Dorito was promoted. It took me back to the mid 80's. I was young again.
Zooming back to reality, I popped in to a retailer and ripped open 74 bags, just to be wasted out.
Pepsico plays games with me, I play games with them.

I think that these chips are not as good as ramen. I love ramen.

These new Doritos taste like...garbage!!! After three chips, they're still on my table and will SOON be IN the GARBAGE!!!

For the love of snack foods everywhere, I don't know why (WHY???) won't Frito Lay make the original Taco flavored Doritos!!! Now those things rocked!!! What they came up with this time around will rock you out of your seat and over to the toilet!!!

But hey, don't take my word for it...try 'em, you might like 'em. (I just don't like to see people waste their money like that--I wish I hadn't!!!) :(

Ugh, I tried these today. I really disliked them!

I thought they were wonderful!!! Tasted just like a taco, I tasted most of the flavors the blogger mentioned. They do need to come with a Midnight Carne Asada Burrito Dorrito!!!

Liked the carne asada comment! LOL!!!!!

I was in the midwest last year and saw the current version of the regular doritos. Got a bag and liked them very much. They reminded me of the old school taco doritos (at least more so than all the other variations that have come out since then i.e. Taco Bell Taco Supreme) Got an extra bag to take home. I rationed them like crazy. Unfortunately, they do not have them on the east coast.

Fast forward to 20 mins ago. I saw the Tacos at Midnight version and had to get a bag. Very disappointed. Entirely too much seasoning and way too salty. I ate 5 chips and can't eat anymore. Why can't they just have the regular taco doritos everywhere. I would have them over any other version of doritos.

dorrito's make your breath reak!!!!!
they need to come out with a flavor that you can brush away when your done not taste for hours after

I just got the new tacos at midnight. So amazing. Use sour cream as a dip! It's like a real taco!

Gimme the old nacho cheese flavor anyday. These exotic flavors are too much for me.The "late night" series also contains more MSG than the regular flavors.

I have a cheese allergy, why do all the great flavors, have to have cheese . I love the sweet/spicy ones. I'd love to try anything with jalopenos but.... being in the minority I don't count!

THE TACO AT MIDNIGHT CHIPS ARE GREAT...THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I AM BUYING DORITOS

absolutly awful, im throwing up as i eat them, none the less still eating them because im a fatty
but still, disgusting
as for the name, late night tacos at midnight, midnight isnt all that late and usually an indication that the night sucked if im eating tacos for the sake that i have nothing better to do

I think it's funny how many people on here bought the chips, apparently thinking they would enjoy them ("Why not - I enjoy Taco Bell!"), only to find that they hate the blend of seasonings. Well, sorry folks, these chips actually taste like taco seasoning you might find in the Hispanic aisle in the grocery store. But maybe even that is too far out of the comfort zone for some people. I love Taco Bell, but I also love real tacos. These chips taste like real tacos. As it should be.

To begin, Doritos are by far my favorite chips in the world and I thank you for that. But, sadly I can't find the regular Taco Doritos anymore. They seem to be replaced by Taco's at midnight. I will give it to you guys, taco's at midnight do taste ALOT like real tacos, but the fact is that while I like tacos, the chips lack something that makes alot of your other flavors good. They just don't taste that good. Now I understatand this is just one persons oppinion, but I'm telling you honestly I know so so many people who's favorite flavor was Taco doritos and the fact that they are replaced with this lesser tacos at midnight flavor makes me personally sad. I truely have asked alot of people about the tacos at midnight chips and I AM YET TO FIND ONE PERSON THAT LIKES THEM. Not one I'm dead serious! You guys had an amazing chip going with Taco. Tacos at midnight on the otherhand is a huge dissapointment for me and I feel is doritos worst flavor yet. I truely love doritos though. Just please bring Taco back even if it means taking tacos at midnight off the shelf. I understand the marketing of adding a new flavor and it might even temporarily be doing well because people buy it and think, "O a new flavor lets check it out!" but i truely will be SHOCKED if sales don't start to drop after enogh people try it for the first time and realize what a let down the flavor is. But man the regular taco flavor was SOOO good and so many people loved it.

Your best flavors
TACO, cool ranch, salsa verde, spicy nacho, nacho cheese

Your worst flavors
tacos at midnight, black pepercorn something, last call jalapeno popers (terrible)

I'm truely one of your biggest fans, thanks for all the great chips

Im sitting at home watching the championship football games and I remember when I would spend alot of money buying the Taco flavored Doritos especially when a big game was on TV. I bought them so much that it was a regular item on my grocery list. They were so good, my mom started eating the whole bag that I bought and we would buy another one... Our dog would rip open the bag to eat them. We one day tested the Taco Late Nite and did not like them. Our dog didnt care to have any, my mom ate a few then put them back in the cabinet. Unfortunately they got old and stail and we had to throw them out.

I right now have a taste for the Taco flavored Doritoes, NOT THE LATE NITE.... I wish I could run to the store and buy them right now... Frito Lays I think yall lost some good customers after getting rid of them. We no longer buy Doritoes PERIOD. Whenever we do buy chips its generic Kroger brand chips or some other generic brand. To the Frito Lay company, if yall want my money as well as probably half the state of Ohio, I would bring back the Taco Doritoes. There were times we had no money, but still spent the little we had on Taco Doritoes... Yeah they were that addictive....

To the confused posters: Yes, there was an actual Doritos "Taco" flavor, that was one of the original 2 flavors (those being plain corn and taco), then nacho cheese was introduces sometime afterward. "Taco" was discontinued sometime around 1979, so whoever remembers that flavor is pretty old school.
