A&W Float

awfloat.jpgThe idea of a root beer float-flavored soda is a great one. But just how do you create the delicious ice cream and root beer flavors in a way that it can be bottled? Evidently, you can’t. A&W has tried with its new Float drink, but it tastes very little like a real root beer float. The components are all there – the root beer, the vanilla ice cream, the creaminess – but the flavor is overly sweet, heavy on the vanilla, and has an distinctly artificial aftertaste. It’s drinkable, and some may actually like it, but it’s no substitute for an actual root beer float. The shapely bottle would earn the Float extra points if Phoood gave points for packaging, but we don’t. At Phoood, it’s all about the flavor, which is exactly where the Float sinks.

Phoood rating: So-so

I have to disagree with you on this one. I saw this at Target and thought it was an awesome idea, so I jumped on it. I got the a&w flavor, and if it was good I was going to try the sunkist flavor. I ate dinner and had this to drink for dessert. I thought it was terrible. The vanilla flavor is wayyy too much. It tastes more like mixing an a&w with a vanilla cake icing. I gave my other three to people that were willing to give it a try and all three of them literally poured it out after their first few sips. It was a little sad watching my $5 going down the drain, but I couldn't get myself to finish it for them. My brother (one of the three who tried it) had a good idea that I never tried. He suggested that maybe if you dilute the vanilla flavor with a can of a&w rootbeer. I would give this drink a lower rating than what was given.

The bottle is cool looking. I'll assume it's glass?

I, my wife, our granddaughter, tried this one, but no one went back for a second sip. Likening it to a real root beer float is the product of someone's wildest dream. Sorry! It looked good in the grocery's display, but actual "taste" didn't agree.

A&W needs to go back to the research lab on this one. It tasted like vanilla ice cream that sat in the freezer too long and isn't really ice cream anymore. The taste of the globulous goo remenants reminds me of the A&W Float. I was hard pressed trying to find any discernable flavor of vanilla or root beer.

Ugh terrible, really a&w rootbeer is my faviort drink but this tastes like a 4 year-old made it.

To me it tastes like what is left of a rootbeer float after you have eaten out all of the ice cream, and just have the drink part left.

(Which is my least favorite part of a root beer float.)

While at work talking co-workers and my boss, which are much older that I am the topic of soda flavors came up. They talking about years ago how many different flavor there was. Which this was before my time. But, they said it's hard to get a good soda like in the 70's. They would love to get their hands on a bottle of past. For myself I would like see what the flavors type was and why they say it was much better.

This is the worst beverage I have ever drank.

I bought it at 7-11 because I thought the bottle looked cool. The drink was waaayyy too sweet and creamy. Also, the worst part: the drink wasn't even carbonated.

The guys above me are right. It tastes like the leftovers of a rootbeer float if you left it open in the refrigerator for a couple of days.

I had trouble just finishing it. First time I was glad I finished the drink. Absolutely terrible.
