Dippin' Dots Ice Cream

dippindots.jpg
I finally got around to trying Dippin’ Dots, which claims to be “ice cream of the future.” Dippin’ Dots are small, round pellets of very cold ice cream that are unique in shape and texture, and are unlike any other ice cream. While Dippin’ Dots are sure to appeal to kids, they have absolutely no redeeming value for an ice cream lover such as myself. To begin with, they were so cold that I actually found them painful to eat. My mouth was numb by the time I finished them. I bought what was supposed to be “Banana Split” flavor, but they tasted nothing like a banana split. Maybe it was just because my mouth was partially numb, but I couldn’t really taste much flavor at all. Then there’s the cost of Dippin’ Dots. I paid $2.29 for a 5 oz tub, which is the equivalent of $58.62 a gallon. For this price, I would expect the best tasting ice cream I ever had. Young kids may like Dippin’ Dots because of their novelty, but true ice cream lovers shouldn’t bother to waste their money on this sad excuse for a frozen dessert.

$2.29 for a 5 oz tub? Did you buy that in an airport terminal or something? What a rip-off.

I'm pretty sure you can't describe something generically as 'very cold'. I'm sure they can be many different temperatures depending on the envirnoment they've been in, as anybody with any understanding of primary school science will tell you. You make Caesar weep.

I used to have to deal with these at my summer job was i was younger. They are SUPER COLD. Stored in dry ice and we had to use gloves to handle the containers. I really dont think they are safe too eat either.

The funny thing about dippin' dots is that 'ice cream of the future' slogan ... what is that supposed to mean? Why is this futuristic in any way?

I tried Dippin Dots for the 1st time this summer and my daughter introduced me to them which I thank her, I love them and I know that the young and old alike will love them also. Yes the price is a little high but people do have to make a profit and my opinion they are worth it. Dippin Dots is now one of my favorite icecreams.

I had Dippin'Dots for the first time at the Big Pig Jig* BBQ Cooking Contest in Georgia. It was great...Interested in a franchise but it is very expensive to buy into it ($12,500) and invest in the business (from $48,000 - $100,000 or more). That must be why a cup of the dots cost so much. The small cup was $3.00 and Jumbo was $4.oo. I bought small cups for my Mom, Sister and Myself. Nine bucks for approx. 10.5 ozs. of dots.(3.5 oz. each) I savored every single dot in my mouth!!! jac

I want to bring back the futuristic issue. Are Dippin dots really from the future? Did some one go there and find that this is where the frozen dairy industry is headed?

just my thoughts

I have to diasagree totally! Dippin' Dots taste wonderful and maybe you were not smart enough to wait for them to cool off!!! The banana split taste wonderful maybe you just had a bad vendor or something. Try them again and I bet you will enjoy them. They are a great food!!

I work at a dippin' dots kiosk in Ohio and I would like to address some of your comments. Dippin' Dots are stored at -40 degrees Celsius (-40 Farenheit also). This is 38 degrees (Farenheit) warmer than dry ice. If the ice cream is too cold for your mouth, simply letting it sit for 5 to 10 minutes will let it get warm enough to eat.
As for your questions about the future; Dippin' Dots are touted as ice cream OF the future not FROM the future. This simply means that it is newer than any previous product and could carry its popularity into the future.
Yes, Dippin' Dots are more expensive than "regular" ice cream, but it is more expensive to store and make and cannot be sold at your grocery store or stored in your house, so it is a special product. $2.29 for a small (5oz) cup is considered low for the company. Most places charge $3.00 or more for that size.
Finally, Dippin' Dots are not a novelty. It is a premium ice cream that is of better quality than the soft serve you buy at most ice cream places. Dippin' Dots are made without any excess air or ice so the ice cream is more pure and is creamier.

O.K.- everyone has their own opinions obviously, but the ice cream is very good. It costs so much, because it has to be stored in special [expensive] freezers. [dry ice too]

but, once again, you don't need to put your opinions online

if you think dippin dots cost alot then you need to go to a gormet resturant. dippin dots ARE THE ICE CREAM OF THE FUTURE. so sooner or later you will have to buy it. dippin dots in my opinion are great! i love them mkay bye!

The other day I went oline to see if i could buy dippin dots and i could. I was buying these for a party but figured out that they were toooooo expensive. 125!!!!!!!!! for a 30 oz bag thats so much money. Its not only expensive onine it is also expensive at venders. If someone would give me dippin dots for free i would eat them but for the price that they are its not worth it.

I think dippin dots are the best! I love trying new flavors to. It's always hard to choose which one to have because I like so many of them. What's great it that you can have a few different kinds in your cup, they will divide the flavors for you if you want. When my kids want a treat, we go to the movie theater or the mall and get dippin dots. My only problem is that you can't buy it in the store, I understand why, if I could, our family would have a freezer full. When we go out some place like a zoo or an amusement park, we all look to see if we can find a dippin dots stand! Keep them coming!!! We love them!!!!!! Thanks

I had them at a baseball game,,,I thought it was good

Posted by: Traci at June 14, 2006 3:51 PM

But yess...they are expensive

Posted by: Traci at June 14, 2006 3:52 PM

I think that dippin dots is one of the best icecreams you can buy. If you don't like the banana split, there are plenty more flavors that you could try. My personal favorite is chocolate. Isn't all icecream cold?!?! Who is going to complain that icecream is cold?!?! Seriously! If it wasn't cold then it wouldn't be icecream, it would be a drink. Too expensive?!?! I think not! It's only three little dollars. Three dollars is nothing! I would rather spend three dollars on dippin dots than two dollars on soft serve icecream anyday. I think that if you think it is too expensive either go out and get a job so you could have money or don't buy it at all! If you thought it was sooo gosh darn expensive than why in the world did you buy it in the first place?!?! Well I am just stating my feelings on dippin dots. Like it or not I don't care.

Yes! That's where I tried the Dippin' Dots. Were you at the place I tried them when the emergency squad came?
